Australian Crocodile, Scientific Name: Crocodylus johnsoni. Of the two species of crocodile occurring in Australia, the freshwater crocodile is the smaller, generally more passive variety. Also known as Johnston's crocodile, or more colloquially, "Freshie," this reptile is found across northern Australia. Although it will react violently when disturbed or provoked, the freshwater crocodile generally minds its own business and is not known to be nearly as aggressive as its saltwater counterpart.
